With our latest design project, A Good Chick To Know had absolute creative freedom… and we took full advantage! We added stairs, removed walls, and injected a full dose of the young family’s personality into the space. As we spent time in the home and really “felt” what the space was longing for, our initial vision altered and grew to suit. We originally planned a white-wash meets pop art theme, but quickly realized that a more family-friendly and personal feel better met the needs of our clients; with a baby and two dogs, our working-professional parents needed a space that showcased their creative interests yet still provided them with optimal efficiency for the space. This home became an eclectic mix that showcased our client’s love for midcentury furniture and vintage pieces – a France & Son’s original sofa and vintage lighting set the stage, and the space was spattered with interesting art: Fred Herzog in the living room, Brent Ray Fraser on the back veranda, Arnie Jacobsen prints in the dining room and Zoe Pawlak downstairs. By taking over the previously separate basement suite, we were able to add in a man-cave inspired area, a home office, a guest bedroom and second kitchen/ bar area for the family.
